Courting Calotes

A few pics of my friendly neighbourhood calotes. Some of the images are with a 2x converter attached to the 500 mm lens.

Again, this is part of my intimate, or up close and personal, series. 

I photographed him in front of my house over several days much to the fascinated horror of my Korean neighbours. He allowed me to get incredibly close to him and I often had to pull back to get the minimum focusing distance. On occasion I used 25mm and 12 mm extension tubes together.

There seems to be considerable variation between the description of the species as given by Indraneil Das and JC Daniel. I will go with the latter and thus this is the Forest Calotes Calotes rouxi. The wonderful coloration occurs during the breeding season, which is from May-September (Daniel 1983).
